RESUMO

Vascular landmark detection plays an important role in medical analysis and clinical treatment. However, due to the complex topology and similar local appearance around landmarks, the popular heatmap regression based methods always suffer from the landmark confusion problem. Vascular landmarks are connected by vascular segments and have special spatial correlations, which can be utilized for performance improvement. In this paper, we propose a multi-task global optimization-based framework for accurate and automatic vascular landmark detection. A multi-task deep learning network is exploited to accomplish landmark heatmap regression, vascular semantic segmentation, and orientation field regression simultaneously. The two auxiliary objectives are highly correlated with the heatmap regression task and help the network incorporate the structural prior knowledge. During inference, instead of performing a max-voting strategy, we propose a global optimization-based post-processing method for final landmark decision. The spatial relationships between neighboring landmarks are utilized explicitly to tackle the landmark confusion problem. We evaluated our method on a cerebral MRA dataset with 564 volumes, a cerebral CTA dataset with 510 volumes, and an aorta CTA dataset with 50 volumes. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is effective for vascular landmark localization and achieves state-of-the-art performance.

RESUMO

This study investigated the effects of nisin combined with ε-polylysine on microorganisms and the refrigerated quality of fresh-cut jackfruit. After being treated with distilled water (control), nisin (0.5 g/L), ε-polylysine (0.5 g/L), and the combination of nisin (0.1 g/L) and ε-polylysine (0.4 g/L), microporous modified atmosphere packaging (MMAP) was carried out and stored at 10 ± 1°C for 8 days. The microorganisms and physicochemical indexes were measured every 2 days during storage. The results indicated that combined treatment (0.1 g/L nisin, 0.4 g/L ε-polylysine) had the best preservation on fresh-cut jackfruit. Compared with the control, combined treatment inhibited microbial growth (total bacterial count, mold and yeast), reduced the weight loss rate, respiratory intensity, polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase activities, and maintained higher sugar acid content, firmness, and color. Furthermore, it preserved higher levels of antioxidant compounds, reduced the accumulation of malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide, thereby reducing oxidative damage and maintaining high nutritional and sensory qualities. As a safe application of natural preservatives, nisin combined with ε-polylysine treatment has great application potential in the fresh-cut jackfruit industry.

RESUMO

As a crucial component responsible for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), cobalt-rich perovskite-type cathode materials have been extensively investigated in protonic ceramic fuel cell (PCFC). However, their widespread application at a commercial scale is considerably hindered by the high cost and inadequate stability. In response to these weaknesses, the study presents a novel cobalt-free perovskite oxide, Ba0.95 La0.05 (Fe0.8 Zn0.2 )0.95 O3-δ (BLFZ0.95), with the triple-conducting (H+ |O2- |e- ) property as an active and robust air electrode for PCFC. The B-site deficiency state contributes significantly to the optimization of crystal and electronic structure, as well as the increase in oxygen vacancy concentration, thus in turn favoring the catalytic capacity. As a result, the as-obtained BLFZ0.95 electrode demonstrates exceptional electrochemical performance at 700 °C, representing extremely low area-specific resistance of 0.04 Ω cm2 in humid air (3 vol.% H2 O), extraordinarily high peak power density of 1114 mW cm-2 , and improved resistance against CO2 poisoning. Furthermore, the outstanding long-term durability is achieved without visible deterioration in both symmetrical and single cell modes. This study presents a simple but crucial case for rational design of cobalt-free perovskite cathode materials with appreciable performance via B-site deficiency regulation.

RESUMO

Reversible proton ceramic electrochemical cells are promising solid-state ion devices for efficient power generation and energy storage, but necessitate effective air electrodes to accelerate the commercial application. Here, we construct a triple-conducting hybrid electrode through a stoichiometry tuning strategy, composed of a cubic phase Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ and a hexagonal phase Ba4Sr4(Co0.8Fe0.2)4O16-δ. Unlike the common method of creating self-assembled hybrids by breaking through material tolerance limits, the strategy of adjusting the stoichiometric ratio of the A-site/B-site not only achieves strong interactions between hybrid phases, but also can efficiently modifies the phase contents. When operate as an air electrode for reversible proton ceramic electrochemical cell, the hybrid electrode with unique dual-phase synergy shows excellent electrochemical performance with a current density of 3.73 A cm-2 @ 1.3 V in electrolysis mode and a peak power density of 1.99 W cm-2 in fuel cell mode at 650 °C.

RESUMO

Endovascular coiling is the predominant method for treating cerebral aneurysms. Extensive reports on selecting coil length, hardness, and material are available. However, the impact of coil diameter on postoperative outcomes remains unclear. This study enrolled six personalized geometric models of intracranial aneurysms: three bifurcation aneurysms and three sidewall aneurysms. Four coil models were constructed by changing the coil diameter. Coil embolization was simulated using the finite element method. Computational fluid dynamics was used to characterize hemodynamics in the aneurysms after embolization. Evaluation parameters included velocity reduction, wall shear stress (WSS), low WSS (LWSS), oscillatory shear index (OSI), relative residence time (RRT), and residual flow volume in the aneurysms. At the peak time (t = 0.17 s), the proportion of LWSS area in bifurcation aneurysms increase with the rise in coil diameter: 0.8D, 71.28 ± 12.62% versus 1D, 74.97 ± 19.17% versus 1.2D, 78.88 ± 18.56% versus 1.4D, 84.00 ± 11.53% (mean ± SD). The proportion of high OSI area decreases as the coil diameter increases: 0.8D, 4.41% ± 2.82% versus 1.0D, 3.78 ± 3.33% versus 1.2D, 2.28% ± 1.77% versus 1.4D, 1.58% ± 1.11% (mean ± SD). The proportion of high RRT area increases as the coil diameter rises: 0.8D, 3.40% ± 1.68% versus 1.0D, 7.67 ± 4.12% versus 1.2D, 9.84% ± 9.50% versus 1.4D, 22.29% ± 14.28% (mean ± SD). Side wall aneurysms do not exhibit the aforementioned trend. Bifurcation aneurysms plugged with a coil of 1.4 times the diameter have the largest RFVs (<10 mm/s) within the group. Aforementioned patterns are not found in sidewall aneurysms. In the treatment of aneurysms with coiling, varying coil diameters can result in different hemodynamic environments within the aneurysm. Larger coil diameters have improved hemodynamic performance for bifurcation aneurysms. However, coil diameter and embolization effectiveness have no significant relationship for sidewall aneurysms.

RESUMO

The entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria majiangensis strain MJ1015, recently isolated from white grubs on a blueberry farm in Guizhou, China, could be used as a biocontrol agent. As a first step toward determining the effect of different solid culture media, temperature, and pH on colony growth rate and sporulation, we evaluated the optimum solid medium for mycelial growth and conidia production on a commercial scale. Subsequently, we also used single-factor analysis and response surface optimization to optimize the composition of the solid culture medium. On potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium, MJ1015 grew fastest and produced the highest spore yield at 29°C and pH 5. The best solid medium for the growth and sporulation of strain MJ1015 comprised 64.70 g/l of rice, 13.00 g/l of wheat, 0.30 g/l of NaNO3, 0.36 g/l of K2HPO4 · 3H2O, and 1.00 g/l of CaCO3. Rice, NaNO3, and K2HPO4 · 3H2O were the main influencing factors. The predicted value of cultured spores using the optimal medium was 4.56 x 1010 conidia/l. The validation test results showed that the average growth rate of strain MJ1015 on the optimal medium was 85% and 96% faster than that on Sabouraud dextrose agar with yeast extracts medium (SDAY) and PDA, respectively. Sporulation was 43.90 times and 9.65 times of that produced on SDAY and PDA, respectively. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for the commercial production of B. majiangensis to control white grubs.

RESUMO

As a pivotal node in modulating various cell behaviors, Rho-associated kinase-1 (ROCK1) has attracted significant attention as a promising therapeutic target in a variety of diseases. Benzamide has been widely reported as a ROCK1 inhibitors in recent years. To better understand its pharmacological properties and to explore its potential inhibitors, a series of ROCK1 inhibitors derived from N-methyl-4-(4-pyrazolidinyl) benzamides (MPBs) were investigated by using three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) models, pharmacophore models, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The comparative Molecular Field Analysis (CoMFA) model (q2 = 0.616, R2 = 0.972, ONC = 4, and r2pred = 0.983) and the best Comparative Molecular Similarity Indices Analysis (CoMSIA) model (q2= 0.740, R2 = 0.982, ONC = 6, and r2pred = 0.824) exhibited reliable predictability with satisfactory validation parameters. In the subsequent virtual screening, VS03 and VS05 were identified to have superior predicted activities and higher docking scores, meanwhile they demonstrated to be reasonably stable in the binding pocket through MD simulations. These results provide a significant theoretical direction for the rational design and development of novel ROCK1 inhibitors.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

RESUMO

Sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (sALS) is the majority of ALS, and the lack of appropriate disease models has hindered its research. Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology now permits derivation of iPSCs from somatic cells of sALS patients to investigate disease phenotypes and mechanisms. Most existing differentiation protocols are time-consuming or low efficient in generating motor neurons (MNs). Here we report a rapid and simple protocol to differentiate MNs in monolayer culture using small molecules, which led to nearly pure neural stem cells in 6 days, robust OLIG2+ pMNs (73%-91%) in 12 days, enriched CHAT+ cervical spinal MNs (sMNs) (88%-97%) in 18 days, and functionally mature sMNs in 28 days. This simple and reproducible protocol permitted the identification of hyperexcitability phenotypes in our sALS iPSC-derived sMNs, and its application in neurodegenerative diseases should facilitate in vitro disease modeling, drug screening, and the development of cell therapy.

RESUMO

Liver cancer continues to be a focus of scientific research due to its low five-year survival rate. One of its main core issues is the high metastasis of cells, for which there is no effective treatment. Neferine was originally isolated from Plumula nelumbinis and demonstrated to have a good antitumor effect. In order to extract high-purity Neferine in a more efficient and environmentally friendly manner, response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the isolation and purification procedures in this study. The extract conditions of a 7:3 ratio for the eluent of dichloromethane: methanol, 1:60 for the mass ratio of the extract amount: silica gel, and 3 mL/min of the elution flow rate were shown to be the optimal conditions. These conditions resulted in the highest yield of 6.13 mg per 66.60 mg of starting material, with productivity of 8.76% and purity of 87.04%. Compared with the previous methods, this method can prepare Neferine in large quantities more quickly. We subsequently evaluated the antitumor activity of the purified Neferine against HepG2 hepatic cancer cells. The purified Neferine was found to inhibit the proliferation of HepG2 cells through the CCK-8 assay, with an IC50 of 33.80 µM in 24 h, 29.47 µM in 48 h, 24.35 µM in 72 h and 2.78 µM in 96 h of treatment. Neferine at a concentration of 3 µM could significantly inhibit the migration and invasion abilities of the HepG2 cells in vitro. We also explored the mechanism of action of Neferine via Western blot. We showed that Neferine could reduce RhoA expression by effectively inhibiting the phosphorylation of MYPT1, thereby effectively exerting anti-metastasis activity against HepG2 cells. Thus, we have optimized the isolation procedures for highly pure Neferine by response surface methodology (RSM) in this study, and purified Neferine is shown to play an essential role in the anti-metastasis process of liver cancer cells. The Neferine purification procedure may make a wide contribution to the follow-up development of other anti-metastasis lead compounds.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Neurosurgeons can manage unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs). However, the stability of UIAs under follow-up remains uncertain. This study aimed to examine the risk factors associated with the instability (rupture or growth) of UIAs during follow-up. METHODS: We obtained information on patients with UIA who underwent ≥ 6 months of the time of flight-magnetic resonance angiography (TOF-MRA) imaging follow-up in two centers. Computer-assisted semi-automated measurement (CASAM) techniques were used for recording morphological parameters and determining the growth of these aneurysms. We also recorded hemodynamic parameters at the beginning of the follow-up. The univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to calculate hazard ratios with corresponding 95% confidence intervals for the clinical, morphological, and hemodynamic risk factors for aneurysm instability. RESULTS: A total of 304 aneurysms from 263 patients (80.4%) were included for analysis. The annual aneurysm growth rate was 4.7%. Significant predictive factors for aneurysm instability in the multivariate analysis were as follows: poorly controlled hypertension (hazard ratio (HR), 2.97 (95% CI, 1.27-6.98), P = 0.012); aneurysms located on posterior circulation (HR, 7.81 (95% CI, 2.28-26.73), P = 0.001), posterior communication artery (HR, 3.01 (95% CI, 1.07-8.46), P = 0.036), and cavernous carotid artery (HR, 3.78 (95% CI, 1.18-12.17), P = 0.026); and size ratio ≥ 0.87 (HR, 2.54 (95% CI, 1.14-5.68), P = 0.023). CONCLUSIONS: The management of UIAs should focus on the control of hypertension during the follow-up. Aneurysms on the posterior communicating artery, posterior circulation, and cavernous carotid arteries require intensive surveillance or timely treatment.

RESUMO

Background and Aim: A pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) is an infectious disease with high in-hospital mortality. It has no specific symptoms and is difficult to be diagnosed early in the emergency department. Ultrasound is commonly used to detect PLA lesions of PLA, but its sensitivity can be affected by lesion size, location, and clinician experience. Therefore, early diagnosis and prompt treatment (especially abscess drainage) are crucial for better patient outcomes and should be prioritized by clinical physicians. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study to compare the effect of early and late (i.e., receiving CT scanning within 48 h and >48 h after admission) adoption of nonenhanced computed tomography (CT) scanning regarding the hospitalization days and interval between admission and drainage of patients with PLA. Results: This study included 76 hospitalized patients with PLA in the Department of Digestive Disease of Xiamen Chang Gung Hospital in China who underwent CT examinations from 2014 to 2021. We conducted CT scans on 56 patients within 48 h of admission and on 20 patients more than 48 h after admission. The early CT group had a significantly shorter hospitalization length compared with the late CT group (15.0 days vs. 20.5 days; P = 0.035). Besides, the median time to initiate drainage after admission was also significantly shorter in the early CT group than in the late CT group (1.0 days vs. 4.5 days; P < 0.001). Conclusion: Early CT scanning within 48 h of admission may aid in early PLA diagnosis and benefit disease recovery, as revealed by our findings.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Zhuidu Formula (ZDF) is composed of triptolide, cinobufagin and paclitaxel, which are the active ingredients of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. F, dried toad skin and Taxus wallichiana var. chinensis (Pilg) Florin, respectively. Modern pharmacological studies show that triptolide, cinobufagin, and paclitaxel are well-known natural compounds that exert anti-tumor effects by interfering with DNA synthesis, inducing tumor cell apoptosis, and inhibiting the dynamic balance of the tubulin. However, the mechanism by which the three compounds inhibit triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) metastasis is unknown. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this investigation was to examine the inhibitory essences of ZDF on the metastasis of TNBC and elucidate its potential mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cell viability of triptolide (TPL), cinobufagin (CBF), and paclitaxel (PTX) on MDA-MB-231 cells was assessed employing a CCK-8 assay. The drug interactions of the three drugs on MDA-MB-231 cells were determined in vitro utilizing the Chou-Talalay method. MDA-MB-231 cells were identified for migration, invasion and adhesion in vitro through the implementation of the scratch assay, transwell assay and adhesion assay, respectively. The formation of cytoskeleton protein F-actin was detected by immunofluorescence assay. The expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in the supernatant of the cells were determined by ELISA analysis. The Western blot and RT-qPCR were employed to explore the protein expressions associated with the dual signaling pathways of RhoA/ROCK and CDC42/MRCK. The anti-tumor efficacy of ZDF in vivo and its preliminary mechanism were investigated in the mouse 4T1 TNBC model. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that ZDF could significantly reduce the viability of the MDA-MB-231 cell, and the combination index (CI) values of actual compatibility experimental points were all less than 1, demonstrating a favorable synergistic compatibility relationship. It was found that ZDF reduces RhoA/ROCK and CDC42/MRCK dual signaling pathways, which are responsible for MDA-MB-231cell migration, invasion, and adhesion. Additionally, there has been a significant reduction in the manifestation of cytoskeleton-related proteins. Furthermore, the expression levels of RhoA, CDC42, ROCK2, and MRCKß mRNA and protein were down-regulated. ZDF significantly decreased the protein expressions of vimentin, cytokeratin-8, Arp2 and N-WASP, and inhibited actin polymerization and actomyosin contraction. Furthermore, MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels in the high-dose ZDF group were decreased by 30% and 26%, respectively. ZDF significantly reduced the tumor volume and protein expressions of ROCK2 and MRCKß in tumor tissues without eliciting any perceptible alterations in the physical mass of the mice, and the reduction was more pronounced than that of the BDP5290 treated group. CONCLUSION: The current investigation demonstrates that ZDF exhibits a proficient inhibitory impact on TNBC metastasis by regulating cytoskeletal proteins through the dual signaling pathways of RhoA/ROCK and CDC42/MRCK. Furthermore, the findings indicate that ZDF has significant anti-tumorigenic and anti-metastatic characteristics in breast cancer animal models.

RESUMO

This study employed novel joint treatments to strengthen the carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. Vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) were prepared in situ on the catalyst-treated CF surface via the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, intertwining into three-dimensional fiber-nets and fully surrounding CF to form an integrated structure. The resin pre-coating (RPC) technique was further used to guide diluted epoxy resin (without hardener) to flow into nanoscale and submicron spaces to eliminate void defects at the root of VACNTs. Three-point bending testing results showed the "growing CNTs and RPC"-treated CFRP composites yielded the best flexural strength, a 27.1% improvement over the specimens without treatment, while the failure modes indicated that the original delamination failure was changed into "flexural failure" with through-the-thickness crack propagation. In brief, growing VACNTs and RPC on the CF surface enabled toughening of the epoxy adhesive layer, reducing potential void defects and constructing the integrated quasi-Z-directional fiber bridging at the CF/epoxy interface for stronger CFRP composites. Therefore, the joint treatments of growing VACNTs in situ via the CVD method and RPC technique are very effective and have great potential in manufacturing high-strength CFRP composites for aerospace applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Haemorrhage of pancreas is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and currently there is no clinical satisfactory treatment for this disorder. OBIECTIVE: The present study envisaged to treat the haemorrhage of pancreas caused by pseudoaneurysm rupture using interventional super-selective coil impregnation therapy, so as to achieve a better treatment efficacy. METHODS: Six cases presenting haemorrhage of pancreas were employed for the study, including 5 cases caused by splenic artery pseudoaneurysm and 1 case caused by superior pancreatic artery pseudoaneurysm. In all 6 patients the femoral artery was punctured using Seldinger femoral artery puncture and intubation technique. Subsequently, a catheter was inserted into the abdominal trunk and the contrast medium was injected, and the pseudoaneurysm was developed. A coil was then inserted into the distal end and proximal end of the pseudoaneurysm, respectively, leading to the elimination of the pseudoaneurysm. RESULTS: All 6 patients with pancreatic haemorrhage were implanted with coil at the distal and proximal end of the aneurysm, until the aneurysm disappeared during intraoperative angiography. Further, clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, melena and hematemesis disappeared after the operation. No recurrence of the symptoms was observed in the studied population. CONCLUSION: A 100% treatment outcome can be achieved in patients with pseudoaneurysm-induced haemorrhage of pancreas using interventional super-selective coil embolization.

RESUMO

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is the performance-limiting step in the process of water splitting. In situ electrochemical conditioning could induce surface reconstruction of various OER electrocatalysts, forming reactive sites dynamically but at the expense of fast cation leaching. Therefore, achieving simultaneous improvement in catalytic activity and stability remains a significant challenge. Herein, we used a scalable cation deficiency-driven exsolution approach to ex situ reconstruct a homogeneous-doped cobaltate precursor into an Ir/CoO/perovskite heterojunction (SCI-350), which served as an active and stable OER electrode. The SCI-350 catalyst exhibited a low overpotential of 240 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 1 M KOH and superior durability in practical electrolysis for over 150 h. The outstanding activity is preliminarily attributed to the exponentially enlarged electrochemical surface area for charge accumulation, increasing from 3.3 to 175.5 mF cm-2. Moreover, density functional theory calculations combined with advanced spectroscopy and 18O isotope-labeling experiments evidenced the tripled oxygen exchange kinetics, strengthened metal-oxygen hybridization, and engaged lattice oxygen oxidation for O-O coupling on SCI-350. This work presents a promising and feasible strategy for constructing highly active oxide OER electrocatalysts without sacrificing durability.

RESUMO

The wound mechanism, injury characteristics and treatment principles of anti-armored vehicle ammunition against armored crew in the past 20 years are summarized in this paper. Shock vibration, metal jet, depleted uranium aerosol and post armor breaking effect are the main factors for wounding armored crew. Their prominent characteristics are severe injury, high incidence of bone fracture, high rate of depleted uranium injury, and high incidence of multiple/combined injuries. During the treatment, attention must be paid on that the space of armored vehicle is limited, and the casualties should be moved outside of the cabin for comprehensive treatment. Especially, the management of depleted uranium injury and burn/inhalation injury are more important than other injuries for the armored wounds.

RESUMO

Objective: Investigate the influence of miR-107 on breast cancer cell growth and death through the PTEN/AKT signaling pathway. Method: As study subjects, the human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 and the normal breast cell line Hs 578Bst were chosen, and MCF-7 cells were, respectively, transfected with control miRNA and miR-107 inhibitor. CCK-8, flow cytometry, scratch assay, and Transwell assay were used to analyze the proliferation, apoptosis, and invasion, and in order to identify the proteins associated with apoptosis in each of the three categories, we used western blot analysis. Bcl-2, cleaved caspase-3, and cleaved caspase-9 expression, as well as PTEN/AKT signaling pathway-associated protein expression, are correlated. Result: The expression of miR-107 in MCF-7 cells was significantly greater than that in Hs 578Bst cells, with a P < 0.05 difference; compared to the blank and miRNA control groups, the miR-107 inhibitor group had a P < 0.05 difference. P < 0.05 showed a decrease in proliferation (42.52) but no difference in proliferation between the blank and miRNA control groups (P > 0.05); the miR-107 inhibitor group had higher apoptosis (38.96) with P < 0.05 than the blank group (4.85) and the miRNA control group (5.89); there was no difference in apoptosis between the blank and miRNA groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference between the blank group and the miRNA control group with P > 0.05; compared with the blank group, the miR-107 inhibitor group had a lower expression of Bcl-2 protein (0.18), in addition to the degraded paradigms (0.73) and caspase-9 protein concentrations (0.79), respectively. Conclusion: The PTEN/AKT signaling pathway may be regulated by miR-107 to limit breast cancer cell growth and increase apoptosis, which suggests that miR-107 may be exploited as a tumor marker for therapeutic therapy.

RESUMO

Severe trauma and hemorrhaging are often accompanied by delayed cutaneous wound healing. Soybean isoflavone is a natural phytoestrogen that has attracted great attention due to its protective effects against various injuries. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are precursor cells with directional differentiation characteristics. This study is to determine whether genistein (GEN), an isoflavone in soybean products, benefits wound healing in hemorrhagic shock (HS) rats by promoting EPC homing and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. In this study, it is found that GEN promotes skin wound healing in HS rats, which is due at least partly to the mobilization of endogenous EPCs to the injury site via angiotensin II (Ang-II), stromal cell-derived factor-1alpha (SDF-1α), and transforming growth factor beta(TGF-ß) signaling.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The authors sought to verify the use of a preoperative simulation software for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms using flow diverters (FDs) based on three-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) data. METHODS: Based on 3DRA data, the preoperative simulation software (UKNOW) was used to simulate the deployment of virtual FDs. The length and dimensions of virtual and real devices were compared. The deployment plan recommended by the UKNOW software was preliminarily used to complete implantations in the real world. During the experiment, experienced neurointerventional experts were responsible for supervising and judging information such as the length, dimension, and deployment location of the FDs. RESULTS: This study retrospectively analyzed the data of 29 patients who received FD treatment. There was no statistical difference between the length of the real device and the virtual device (p = 0.6). The dimensions of FDs recommended by the software were consistent with the dimensions used in 24 out of the 29 real cases. In four of the remaining five cases, neurointerventional experts found that the FD dimensions recommended by the software were superior to those were actually used. Thus, the accuracy rate for FD dimension recommendations by the UKNOW software was 96.6% (28/29). Procedures performed in five cases using deployment plans recommended by the UKNOW software all achieved good postoperative results; the deployment positions of the device were reasonable, and all devices showed good wall adherence. CONCLUSIONS: UKNOW software could accurately simulate the length and deployment position of the real FDs and provide suitable device dimensions.
